More than 17 km has been tunnelled by 7 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) at the the Riyadh Metro project.
According to Al Riyadh daily, this equates to around 50% of the overall deep tunnelling work required at the project.
There are seven massive TBMs varying in length between 90 and 120 meters, which can excavate safely at depths reaching 30 meters below the ground with no disruption to surrounding buildings.
TBMs’ jobs is to tunnel, remove massive quantities of dirt, build tunnel walls and lay down steel rails inside the tunnels.
