Pump manufacturer, Grundfos, organised an event where experts gave presentations on how to save 30% to 60% on pumps’ energy bills.

The event was spread over three days, 9, 10, and 11 October, at the Grundfos Villa in Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai.

During one of the presentations, Tolga Candan, business development manager, Grundfos Gulf Distribution, said that pumps accounted for 10% of the world’s electricity consumption.

Candan said: “Let’s say that your pumps are 10 years old, you are paying approximately AED1.5m in electricity every year. Just by replacing them with today’s energy-efficient pumps, you can save approximately AED200,000.”

Later over the sidelines, Candan spoke to MEP Middle East about the retrofitting market in the Middle East: “I think the retrofitting market has picked up really good and with the increase in energy prices, the governments are obliged to push [retrofitting] from their side. And Dubai has been a leader in this; Dubai has set the policies, especially through Ethiad Esco. This has created the awareness in the private sector as well.

Ronak Monga, pumps application expert, Grundfos Gulf Distribution, added: “I think the most important element whenever you look at a retrofit is from the perspective of return of investment.

“If I am going to invest a certain amount of money into equipment which is running fine. So whenever we are talking retrofits with any organisation, whether its an Esco, whether it’s a private client, or end-user, or facility manager, we are always focusing on two facts: what is the current consumption and what would be the consumption if you retrofit. So that gives us an easy calculations of the savings.

“When talking about financing, where people say that they don’t have money to invest in retrofit. That is money you are already spending, it’s not money you are saving. Instead of saving it, you are spending it in your electricity bill.”

The event showcased several energy-efficient pumps with Grundfos experts giving product demonstration.
