US firm Jacobs Engineering Group has been selected to work on the UAE’s Etihad Rail project.
Jacobs will deliver critical technical and programme consulting services for the freight and passenger railway network.
The firm will also deliver engineering and design services for the network, in addition to reviewing and providing critical oversight for detailed designs, which will be prepared by design and build (D&B) contractors.
Additionally, the company will provide construction supervision services for the development.

Commenting on the contract, Bob Pragada, president of buildings, infrastructure, and advanced facilities at Jacobs, said the team would combine the US engineering giant’s resources with those of the recently acquired, CH2M, to provide “fully integrated” services for the project.
In a statement, he added: “This includes accessing the best talent across the breadth of our global network, coupled with a strong local presence provided by Jacobs in the UAE.”
This May, a project management consultancy (PMC) contract was awarded for Stages 2 and 3 of Etihad Rail.
French group Egis will work with the project’s eponymous developer, Etihad Rail, on the project.
Egis’s team will join the project ownership unit to oversee and supervise various stakeholders, including the engineering consultant responsible for preliminary design and construction supervision; the D&B contractors, once they are appointed; and other third parties.
