UAE’s Khalifa City to open first dedicated maternity hospital

The European Maternity Hospital in the Abu Dhabi suburb is expected to open in 2021, catering solely to the healthcare of women and children

A dedicated maternity hospital in Abu Dhabi suburb Khalifa City was announced over the weekend, making it the first facility of its kind in the area to cater only to the health of women and infants.

The European Maternity Hospital in Khalifa City will provide “top of the range” maternity services for families, women, and infants, according to a statement.

Comprising multiple operating rooms, delivery rooms, ultra sound stations, mammogram scanners, a CT scanner, and an MRI machine, the new facility is scheduled for completion in 2021.

Expected to “house a few dozen consultants and doctors, a few hundred nurses, several technical support staff, and management officers”, it will also have a capacity of 120 beds, plus an intensive care unit (ICE), postnatal, as well as antenatal beds.

The new facility has already received its license from the Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Department of Health for its location and staffing, and is expected to become “one of the UAE’s top hospitals solely dedicated to the healthcare of women and babies”.

On the move, Mohamed Hamad, chief executive officer of the European Hospital LLC, said: “We purposely searched to have the hospital in Khalifa City in order to maximise the number of families that would benefit from our specialised services.

“There are over 30,000 families living in the vicinity, and currently there is no specialised hospital in the area that focuses purely on the needs of women and young children. The UAE houses some of the best medical facilities on an international level and we aim to build upon those standards by offering families our expertise in maternity care.”

According to The European Hospital’s statement, the facility is being developed in alignment with the UAE’s directive for the supply of “premium healthcare facilities” to service the community.
