Abu Dhabi-based sustainability giant is leading the way for green projects in the Middle East and beyond
The latest episode of Construction Week In Focus explores some of the major announcements made by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2019.
A key aspect of the UAE’s annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week held in January, the summit has cemented its position as one of the world’s leading specialist events in energy, clean technology, and sustainability.
The second day of the summit saw the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority announce that is intiated the process to give an investment license to the consortium of Masdar and French firm EDF Renewables.
The news comes two weeks after a Masdar-led consortium won a contract to build the kingdom’s first utlility scale wind project – the Dumat Al Jandal wind power plant in Al Jouf in the north of the kingdom.
Other news involved the construction of Bahrain’s planned 100 MW solar energy plant, which is in line with the kingdom’s target to ensure renewable energy makes up at least 5% of its energy mix by 2025.
Masdar has tendered for the project, according to Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, Bahrain’s Minister for Electricity and Water Affairs, as reported by UAE state news agency Wam at the time.
Masdar and Finnish wind and solar developer Taaleri Energia also inked partnership deal on day two of the expo, an agreement that aims to build upon of the success of Masdar and its own ongoing activities in the Western Balkans through the joint development of onshore wind and solar photovoltaic projects.
