CW In Focus | Inside the revamp of Dubai's DXB airport [2019]

Latest CW episode explores Al Naboodah Construction Group's 45-day plan for the "high-intensity" project

Emirates airline is replacing Boeing with Airbus and the construction team is raring to go – Dubai International Airport’s runway revamp is all set to begin with Al Naboodah Construction Group.

UAE contracting giant Al Naboodah Construction Group has been picked to work on the renovation programme that is due to kick off at DXB.

Project works, to be implemented between 15 April and 31 May, 2019, will see the south runway of DXB – the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic – shut down for 45 days.

The live airfield project has led airlines to reschedule their flight plans for the period, with Dubai carrier Emirates airline set to temporarily replace its Boeing 777 aircraft with Airbus 380 models for Dubai-Glasgow-Dubai flights.

Upgrade works at DXB will include the runway’s resurfacing, with developer Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects expecting the project to raise safety, capacity, and scalability at DXB. The UAE contractor said its “high-intensity” project will include the removal of 6,000 inset runway lights, and milling 407,000m2 of runway and taxiway surfaces.

In this video, Construction Week's editor, Neha Bhatia, details the activities that will be implemented by Al Naboodah Construction Group for DXB's Southern Runway.
